Factories department officer held on corruption charge

Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Thursday arrested M. Venkanna, Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories of Ranga Reddy district, on charge of amassing wealth illegally.

Searches at his office, residence and the houses of his relatives at different places revealed that he had acquired properties worth ₹ 3.25 crore which were disproportionate to his known sources of income. Market value of the assets would be around ₹ 10 crore, the ACB officials said.

Among the properties acquired by the officer were, three-floor building with 9,000 square feet built-up area at Madinaguda, four open plots admeasuring 800 square yards at Ghatkesar, an open plot at Jalpally, seven open plots at Gandhinagar in Suryapet district, open plot in Turkayamjal on city outskirts and two plots in Nizamabad district.

Agriculture land of 26.13 acres in Nizamabad, gold jewellery weighing 600 grams, silver articles weighing 3.5 kilos, a car and a two-wheeler were also found among his properties.

He would be presented before the local court today (Friday), ACB DSP Md. Iqbal Siddiqui said.
