An explosion reported in Amannagar late on Tuesday night created panic in the thickly-populated neighbourhood. No one was injured in the incident, the police said.
Security tightenedSoon after explosion, the police tightened security across the city as the blast occurred a few days before the seventh anniversary of Mecca Masjid blast.
According to people, the explosion was heard at around 11.00 p.m. and was followed by a thick smoke. “I was sleeping on my push cart when I was woken up by a big noise. People rushed out of their houses in panic and there were chaos all around. ,” said Mohd Saleem, who claimed to have sustained burns on his left hand due to it.
Shaik Abdullah, a senior citizen, who was sitting outside his house when the blast occurred said, “I was talking to one of my friends when suddenly something exploded a little away. For the next few minutes, I was stunned. The curtain on the door also got burned,” the 80 year-old-man recalled.
The police who rushed to the spot cordoned off the area and conducted a search. Nails and ball bearings were recovered from the site. Investigators said that miscreants might have hurled a country-made bomb to create panic.
Meanwhile speaking to presspersons, Director General of Police B. Prasada Rao said, “We have no clues regarding the blast. It is a minor incident and the bomb seemed to be a country-made. Our teams are working on it”.
The Bhavaninnagar police registered a case under Section 3 (Punishment for causing explosion likely to endanger life or property) of Explosive Substance Act. The material recovered from the blast site was sent to forensic lab for testing.
