Though the precise reasons that resulted in the death of Vasu, who died while doing cardio vascular exercise at a gym in L.B. Nagar on Sunday are yet be ascertained, his tragic death did kick up a debate.

Images of 33-year-old Vasu working out in a gym alone without supervision of coaches and then collapsing after a while went viral on the net and was also telecast on television channels.

Opinions vary but fitness experts are very sure that trainers guidance is a must for exercising, especially in a gym.

“Never experiment with your own self-styled work outs,” says Mir Mohtesham Ali Khan. A silver medallist at Mr. Universe event and body building coach, Mr. Khan explains that there is no uniform exercise regimen for all people. Some want to gain weight while others aim at shedding it.

There are different training modules to achieve this. But they to vary depending on the age and body weight of individuals. Mr. Khan alleges that some persons are claiming as fitness experts having secured certificated by pursuing online fitness programmes.

Without physically undergoing training through different forms of exercises, it would be tough to assess what kind of exercise affects a particular body part, he observes.

Suman, a qualified fitness expert from Alwal, observes that some persons develop fascination for using treadmills for longer periods.

“I come across fitness enthusiasts attempting to lose their weight within a week by using treadmills for an hour or even more, which is dangerous,” he says. He recalls this was not the first time that a death connected to work out in gym was reported.

In 2011, a youngster died after gulping pain killer after working out in a gym at Jubilee Hills.

In another instance in 2012, Mohsin collapsed after gulping protein supplement laced with milk and eventually died while undergoing treatment in a hospital.

The L.B.Nagar police have registered a criminal case against the gym management following a complaint lodged by Vasu’s parents. They charged that he died due to the negligence of the gym owner who didn’t employ a trainer to guide persons coming there.

Police invoked section 304-A (rash and negligent act resulting in death) of Indian Penal Code. “Vasu was all alone in the gym. Inquiries suggested that he used the treadmill for nearly two hours exhausting his energy,” the L.B. Nagar ACP Sitaram said.

“We will thoroughly examine the video footage, the gym security guard and receptionist and frame charges after receiving the autopsy report,” he said.
