Ailing guard, wife immolated themselves after a pilgrimage to Srisailam, Amaravati
A distraught private security guard suffering from a serious ailment and his wife ended their lives by immolating themselves at Yacharam soon after completing a week-long pilgrimage. The charred bodies of Kolluri Narsimha, 47, and K. Veeramani, 39, were found in an embrace near a tank at Thakkalapally village, 50 km from here, on Thursday.
“Inquiries with the couple’s relatives have revealed that Narsimha had been suffering from some ailment. However, the motive behind the couple’s suicide is yet to be confirmed,” Ibrahimpatnam ACP V. Surender Reddy said.
The couple left for a pilgrimage to Srisaialm, Amaravati and Vijayawada on Thursday last and returned home on Wednesday.
“We believe the couple had gone to a secluded area in Thakkalapally on Thursday morning and set themselves on fire,” the ACP said. Three cool-drink bottles in which the couple suspected to have carried kerosene, footwear and a handbag were found at the spot.
Based on a mobile phone found in the handbag, police called members of their family, who identified the couple. The guard, who hailed from Yacharam, is survived by son Rahul, 13.
