The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (ESSO-INCOIS), Hyderabad, under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), inaugurated a 396.8 kWp rooftop solar plant set up on various buildings, including the parking space, to supply solar power to the Hyderabad campus.
M. Rajeevan, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences and Chairman GC, ESSO-INCOIS, inaugurated the plant which is expected to reduce carbon-dioxide by about 507 tonnes annually and save upto ₹14.72 lakh per year in power bills, considering that the solar tariff is 33.5% cheaper than the prevailing grid tariff.
It has been set up by CleanMax Solar, which would also be maintaining the same for 25 years.
The ESSO-INCOIS was established in 1999 under the MoES and is a unit of the Earth System Science Organization (ESSO).
It provides the best possible ocean information and advisory services to society, industry, government agencies and the scientific community through sustained ocean observations and constant improvements through systematic and focused research.
“We are delighted to be the sustainability partner for the ESSO-INCOIS. Our ‘OPEX’ model makes it easier to adopt sustainable solutions as it ensures savings in electricity cost with no investment needed from our clients,” said Andrew Hines, co-founder, CleanMax Solar, a press release said.
