A prisoner, Syed Sajid (26) who escaped with Rs. 68,500 while performing duty at Chanchalguda Central Prison Petrol Pump last month, was nabbed by the police on Tuesday.
Sajid of Shaheennagar was convicted in a case of dowry harassment and abetment of suicide after his wife committed suicide in January 2012 and was serving sentence at Chanchalguda prison.
Citing his good conduct, the prison authorities assigned the work at the Chanchalguda Central Prison petrol pump. On August 19 night, Sajid escaped with Rs. 68, 500 while the guards were busy overseeing the remittance of cash at the pump. He was caught last night at Shaheennagar by a police team which kept a watch on his relatives and friends.
Sajid told the police that after escaping, he went to Gulbarga and stayed there. “We took him into custody at Shaheenagar on Monday night. He told us that he handed over the money to a friend who stayed in Maharashtra,” Dabeerpura Sub-Inspector K.B. Vijay Bhaskar said.
