The entry fee for vehicles at the Nehru Zoological Park will be increased from the present Rs.750 to Rs.1,000 shortly in order to curtail the entry of vehicles on the premises. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Zoo Authority of Andhra Pradesh held on Monday. The meeting was chaired by S. Vijayrama Raju, Minister for Forests, and attended by senior officials of Forest and Finance Department.
The authorities decided to introduce ten more battery-operated cars in the Nehru Zoological Park in addition to the already existing 15 vehicles. It was also proposed to replace the existing three-coach toy train with a new battery-operated five-coach modern train with a capacity to accommodate 160 persons at a time.
Authorities also decided to set a golden jubilee pylon and install a statute of Jawaharlal Nehru to mark the golden jubilee occasion. An annual budget of Rs. 19.65 crore was earmarked for the three zoos at Hyderabad, Vishakapatnam and Tirupati for the financial year 2013- 2014.
