Assistant Professors on contract employment at Osmania University have sought an enquiry into the recent recruitments in the university, stating that the selection process was faulty, resulting in the rejection of meritorious candidates.

In a memorandum submitted to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, who is also the OU Chancellor, the teachers claimed that meritorious candidates with experience of 15 and 20 years were rejected. They said announcement of the selection list was deferred by the Executive Council several times due to objections raised by members.

The government had even constituted a three-member enquiry committee to which several complaints were submitted. Once the panel submitted its report to the EC at a meeting held on August 3, the EC had decided to stop results of 13 departments based on the report, they claimed.

Some candidates had also approached the High Court and obtained stay orders on appointments to the Linguistics, Hindi and Education departments. Teachers charged that appointment orders in other departments were handed over to selected candidates in haste and by hand, rather than sending them by post.

Moreover, they were also asked to join the same day, with Principals and Heads of Departments staying back in office till late night. They said it reflected the way officials were in a hurry to complete the process.
