An engineering student K. Sai Krishna sustained 90 per cent burns on Thursday at a secluded place in Ankushpur of Ghatkesar, nearly 100 yards away from his Princeton engineering college.

While his kin suspected foul play, the Ghatkesar police said the circumstantial evidence suggested the 19-year-old student attempted suicide. “We are yet to ascertain reasons that drove him to attempt suicide. However, all angles -including the possibility of an attempt to kill him- are being probed,” the police said.

Krishna hailing from Bellampally of Adilabad district is a second-year student of B. Tech. He was residing with his elder brother at Habsiguda. The student started for his college around 7 a.m. Two hours later, he sent a text message to one friend stating that he was ending his life. He also called up another friend a few minutes later and told him that he was burning himself to death, according to the police.

By the time they rushed to the spot, he was found lying on a narrow pathway leading to his college. His backpack with college identity card inside and a Thums Up bottle with traces of petrol were found nearby.
