Elected SCB members pitch for new Secretariat

Elected political members of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board, affiliated to the ruling TRS, are all for a secretariat at the Bison Polo Ground.

Sharing details of likely benefits to the population living in cantonment, board’s Vice-President J. Ramakrishna, who represents ward 5, said the area’s civil infrastructure would greatly improve if the secretariat came up there.

“There will be better roads, water, and power supply lines, and the cantonment’s solid waste management issues will be solved. We would also earn through service charges provided to the Secretariat,” he said. Besides the Secretariat, two sky-ways part of the SRDP, would also go through the cantonment.

The State government had sought the Bison Polo Ground for its plans. Mr. Ramakrishan said the proposal was going ahead.

However, the Congress has opposed the move on the grounds that it would lead to loss of open green-spaces which act as lung spaces for the city. That apart, the opposition does not agree with the TRS on the need for new office-space beyond the existing Secretariat and Assembly.
