Eighth standard student ‘ends life’ in Dundigal

August 12, 2011 11:16 am | Updated 11:16 am IST - HYDERABAD:

An eighth standard student committed suicide by self-immolation in her house at Dundigal here on Friday morning.

Reasons behind the suicide of the 15-year-old girl are not yet known, the Dundigal Inspector, V. Bhaskar, said. The teenager was from R.K. Model School. The victim’s father died three years ago and she was the oldest of three daughters. After her mother left for work in the morning, she dropped her younger sister at school and returned home around 8 a.m..

“She bolted the main door of the house from inside, went to the bathroom, doused herself in kerosene and set herself ablaze,” the Inspector said. On hearing her cries, neighbours jumped inside the house after scaling the compound wall and tried to rescue her. By then, she had suffered 100 per cent burns and was dead.
