Various student organisations at the English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu) staged a half-naked demonstration on Thursday, protesting the contents of a letter purportedly sent by university authorities to the parents of a student M. Sriramulu, a press release said.
The letter apparently proclaimed that the university cannot be held responsible for Sriramulu’s actions, as he was no more a student here.
Sriramulu has been protesting the alleged caste-discrimination shown by the German department, which did not promote him to the next semester of his B.A. course, after he failed in eight subjects.
He alleged that he was deliberately failed, and not given remedial classes despite repeated requests.
‘VC protecting Prof. Meenakshi Reddy’
Students who participated in the demonstration alleged that the Vice-Chancellor was trying to protect Prof. Meenakshi Reddy, Dean of the School of Germanic Studies.
They demanded that the university revoke the letter sent to Sriramulu’s parents, arrange for remedial classes and conduct exams for Sriramulu.
Organisations which participated in the protest include TSA, DABMSA, SIO, MSF, and PDSU.
