EFLU students burn effigy of Modi

November 23, 2011 09:39 am | Updated 09:39 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Student organisations on the English and Foreign Languages University campus burnt an effigy of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and demanded that a criminal case be booked against him in view of the Special Investigation Team's report that sensational Ishrat Jahan encounter was ‘staged'.

Students raised slogans against the political-bureaucratic nexus that protect ruling elites and also demanded probe into allegations of discrimination and exploitation of minorities through instances of corruption in government developmental schemes.

They said it revealed the real foundations of communal violence and systematic exclusion upon which the illusions of “Vibrant Gujarat” were being built through advertising in the mainstream media. “No State can justify its project of economic development when it denies its people fundamental, human and political rights,” the statement said.
