Alleging partisan treatment, a group of students of English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu) on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the All India Congress Committee, SC Cell national chairman, K. Raju.

They complained that the university authorities had been targeting students from marginalised communities.

The students alleged that the university authorities had ‘deliberately’ reduced the number of Ph.D. seats in many interdisciplinary studies, curtailing the possibility of those from marginalised communities getting a seat, in their representation. Claiming that the German Department has become a ‘hot bed of discrimination’, the students charged the university authorities of not implementing steps in favour of students even after a direction from the AP High Court.

The EFLU administration had reduced Ph.D. seats to four in many departments in direct violation of the GOI rules of reservation, the complaint said. Similarly, supernumerary quota of seats, which should be given to students from SC and ST communities entitled to Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship, have also been cancelled, they alleged.

The students requested Mr. Raju to intervene and ensure that the campus atmosphere is made more inclusive.
