Officials appeal to tribals not to believe rumours

Efforts to restore peace in the violent hit areas of Adilabad and Kumram Bheem Asifabad district moved one step ahead on Tuesday. There was no violent incident reported during the day and top officials working to restore normalcy in the Agency areas made fervent appeal to the warring Adivasis and Lambada tribe people to let the same situation to continue in the coming days.

The officials, Warangal Region Inspector General of Police Y. Nagi Reddy, Adilabad and Mancherial collectors D. Divya and R.V. Karnan, Karimnagar Range Deputy IG P. Promod Kumar and Adilabad Superintendent of Police Vishnu S. Warrier urged people not be believe in rumours.

All the rumours which were in circulation turned out to be false, the SP claimed.

Non-violent methods

Mr. Karnan, who is also in charge Project Officer of Utnoor Integrated Tribal Development Agency, quoted the rumour which related with poisoning of an open well at Allikhori which took place the previous day. “It turned out to be false and the victims actually had diarrhoea,” the ITDA PO pointed out.

Ms. Divya appealed to both the sides to struggle for their demands through non-violent means.

“We stand for truth and justice and our doors are also open for you to air your grievances,” she assured the two communities that are at loggerheads.

Counselling villagers

Mr. Warrier said the peace initiative has seen counselling of villagers in 224 habitations in Utnoor Sub-Division the previous day and the number of villages where authorities are focussing in getting back normalcy will cross 300 on Tuesday. The police has identified all affected and vulnerable places and has deployed sufficient police force to deal with any eventualities, he said.

The SP appealed to people to approach concerned police officers in case of rumours being spread either personally or by calling the control room number 9440180851 and the ITDA toll free number 1900425566.

“We have booked 27 cases related with violent incidents at Hasnapur and Rampur,” he said.
