November 10, 2013 10:32 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 07:48 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Efforts of the authorities to clear the water accumulated in the Kings Colony at Shastripuram did not yield desired results on Sunday as residents of an adjacent colony protested the release of water arguing that their houses will get inundated.

“More than fifty households will get affected in a matter of time. The authorities should think of an alternate plan,” argued Sajid, a local resident. Mild tension prevailed in the area when the locals forcefully got a discharge outlet closed. A police team which arrived detained a couple of persons but released them later.

Meanwhile, people in the Kings Colony were forced to wade through knee-deep water on Sunday. Locals are facing problem since last 15 days after a small irrigation tank adjacent to it got filled to its brim and water flowed into the colony.

“Snakes and lizards are moving in the houses,” Rafeeq, a local resident said. Some residents locked their houses and moved to safer places.

Earlier in the day, senior GHMC officials, including Commissioner Somesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner, Planning, Ronald Rose, and Zonal Commissioner (south) N. Ravi Kiran, visited the area and reviewed the works.

In the evening, the authorities started working on an alternative plan to facilitate the discharge of water.
