The educational hub idea of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao would get functional in his constituency — Gajwel — from June this year.
The Chief Minister had proposed that the hub at Gajwel be made model so that it can be replicated across the State. There would be two separate hubs one for boys and another for girls. The construction of buildings began in February 2016 and they would be ready for occupation in June this year.
Both the hubs are being established with an outlay of ₹146 crore, buildings account for the major component at ₹109 crore. The balance would be spent on other infrastructure facilities.
All at one place
While the boys’ hub is coming up at the Government Polytechnic in about 40 acres, the girls’ hub is getting ready at Kasturba Gandhi Residential School spread over some 20 acres. Each education hub will accommodate 1850 students studying high school to college.
The Girls’ education hub would have one auditorium, model school and high school, junior college, degree college, high school and junior college hostel, degree college hostel, principals’ quarters, quarters for teaching staff and non-teaching staff.
The boys’ education hub will have a high school, junior college, degree college, a hostel for high school students and a combined hostel for junior college and degree college students.
Work on schedule
Depending on the requirement, 1000 labourers — skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled — were employed every day and presently as many as 800 labour are being hired by DEC Infrastructures India Private Limited, which was awarded the contract.
Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao recently examined the ongoing works and expressed satisfaction.
“The work is going on schedule and we will hand over the building to authorities by June before the new academic year begins,” K. Ramachandar, assistant engineer, Telangana State Education Welfare and Infrastructure Development Corporation, told The Hindu .
