The biggest motivating factor for students was meeting generations of successful individuals
‘Excellence, creativity and enterprise’, so reads the alumni logo and the achievements of its alumni prove that to the hilt.
The alumni association of the Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) department of Osmania University College of Engineering (OUCE) is celebrating the golden jubilee of the first batch passing out from the department this year.
It has produced academics, administrations, professionals and entrepreneurs who are spread across the globe. Originally started as Telecommunications Engineering Department, it was renamed the ECE department in 1968.
Some of the stalwarts it produced include D.C. Reddy, former Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University; JNTUH Vice-Chancellor, Rameshwar Rao; Prof. Alladi Prabhakar; Prof. D.V.R. Vittal; Venugopal of STPI Hyderabad; Ramachandru Tejavath, IAS officer with Government of Odisha; Sudhakar Gande of Karnataka State Council and A. Raghottam Rao who retired recently as Chief Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
At the reunion of the ECE department held on Sunday at Osmania University, the alumni gathered to discuss and share ideas about improving the department and strengthening the students with academic lectures and also helping its recent alumni in the industry. The biggest motivating factor for the students was meeting several generations of highly successful individuals.
“The Alumni Association has been actively conducting various programmes for the benefit of the students of BE and ME courses. Especially for the third year and final year students of BE on their graduation and seeking careers in industry, academic and research sectors,” said P. Chandrasekhar, Head of the Department, ECE. He said the department had been endorsed with the high grade of A+ by the National Board of Accreditation.
The alumni has also instituted distinguished Alumni Awards in five categories – education, entrepreneurship, industry, public services and social service and founders awards for students for outstanding volunteer work in alumni activities. It is an effort to bring together the alumni and students to work for paying back the alma mater.
