The Left parties have urged the Election Commission of India to disqualify IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao as they believe he had violated the provisions under the Representation of People’s Act.

The Left parties complained that Mr. Rama Rao’s continuance in the office as Minister was serious violation of Section - 9A of the Representation of People’s Act, 1951.

A delegation of the Left parties headed by CPI (Marxist) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram submitted a memorandum to Chef Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal seeking disqualification of Mr. Rama Rao from the Ministry and as the MLA.

Mr. Veerabhadram said that he had submitted proof to the CEO that Mr. Rama Rao was one of the directors of Himanshu Motors Pvt. Limited holding a majority of shares and he had filed the annual returns of the company in his capacity as the director.

The filing of annual returns clearly demonstrated the Minister’s interest in the company which was given orders worth ₹ 312 crore for purchase of 3,883 vehicles by the Police Department.

The sanction was accorded on July 9, in 2014 when Mr. Rama Rao was the director of the company and beneficiary of the order issued in this regard. Mr. Veerabhadram said that the CEO responded positively to the representation and assured them of referring the matter to the Election Commission for an early disposal of the case.
