Duo held for theft of laptops, cash from cars

Two members of a gang, who were stealing laptops and cash from cars parked near banks and shops, were arrested by Humayun Nagar police on Thursday.

While eight laptops and Rs. 8,000 were seized from the arrested – Syed Atif (48) and Syed Ilyas Hashmi (36) – a hunt was on for third accused Syed Wasif.

Siblings Atif and Wasif had hatched a plot to commit thefts after suffering losses in business, Asifnagar ACP G.P. Vinod Kumar said.

They joined hands with Ilyas who was convicted in a robbery committed four years ago. He had come out on bail. He was also arrested by Tirupati police for theft and was facing trial.

“They used to wait outside banks and shops to pick their target. They would break the windscreens of cars and open the car doors by inserting hands or iron rods and take away the valuables,” said the ACP.

ID racket busted

Prohibition and Excise Department officials arrested 14 persons and seized five vehicles used in transporting of the illicitly distilled (ID) liquor in different parts of Ranga Reddy district.
