“Don’t stop student’s counsel from entering campus”

April 08, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar of the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday asked the Hyderabad Central University to see to it that if the advocate for a student of the university who is party to the High Court cases comes to the campus to meet his or her client, there shall be no hindrance.

The judge made these observations when counsel for Prasanth , respondent in writ petitions filed by Vice-Chancellor Appa Rao and others, complained that the university security had prevented him from entering the campus.

The advocate should not be stopped from meeting his client, he said. He named one security officer.

Senior Counsel appearing for the university Vice-Chancellor said that there was communication gap due to the situation on the campus. He suggested that the advocate may intimate his visit to the campus in advance to the standing counsel for the university and the appropriate message would be sent to the administration to facilitate smooth entry.

The judge said that this could be worked out and asked counsel for Prasanth to inform the standing counsel in advance so that there would not be any hitch. The judge said that the court did not want to comment about the situation on the campus and said such complaints should not come again.

The cases will now be heard on April 18. The police were asked to file a detailed-counter affidavit about the status of the investigation.
