On the occasion Gandhi Jayanthi, a 12-minute docufiction exploring the religious aspects of the father of the nation titled ‘An Encounter with Mahatma’ was released online. Compiled and edited by Bharatan Kumarappa, the docufiction is based on the celebrated book of Mahatma Gandhi ‘My Religion’.
The docufiction, being brought out by Master Vision in association with Veera Sanker Silver Screens, is being released to celebrate the 146{+t}{+h}birthday celebrations. The makers said that the docufiction is a cinematographic combination of documentary and fiction. The touch and feel of the film is archaic, and gives an impression as if the entire footage is taken from the archive. But the entire film was recreated to give that impression, the makers said.
“The humanity of today requires Mahatma Gandhi more than before. More importantly, I believe that the world needs Mahatma Gandhi even more to answer the fundamental doubts of the present youth,” said Gautham Kashyap, while interacting with press persons here on Thursday.
The religion views of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, though he was a Hindu, drew them from all religions. He spent much of his life trying to reconcile differences between religious groups, he said. The docufiction is available on YouTube.
