A conman stole the ‘mangalsutra’ of a patient in Gandhi Hospital after posing as a doctor on Friday night, even as Director of Medical Education Ramani was speaking with media persons inside the hospital.
A man, wearing a white shirt and carrying a stethoscope, entered the second floor of the hospital where a woman, Rama, a homemaker, was admitted since Thursday. The ‘doctor’ pretended to check the health of other patients. Upon seeing an empty bed, he asked where the patient was.
“Ms. Rama went out of the ward that time. A little later, the person posing as doctor came again and took the woman to a room,” an attendant of a patient said. He took Ms. Rama to the room of female nurses and asked her to lie on a table. He then injected a needle in her neck.
Disappearing act
After falling unconscious, she woke up five minutes later only to realise that the ‘doctor’ had disappeared with her mangalsutra weighing nearly 40 grams in gold.
Interestingly, this happened while the Director of Medical Education was speaking to media persons at the hospital about reports of inadequate facilities in the hospital.
