A doctor Balaji Naik, who came out from prison five days ago after being arrested for the death of his wife, ended his life in his house in Vanasthalipuram, the police said on Wednesday.

Naik was arrested by the Vanasthalipuram police three months ago after his wife Madhavilata, also a doctor, committed suicide in their house. A case of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide was registered against him then.

The two doctors fell in love and married outside their castes, the police said. They were living in a rented house at Sreeramnagar colony in Turkayamjal.

“The doctor called up his brother late on Tuesday night stating that he was killing himself in Maal village near Ibrahimpatnam, nearly 30 kms away from city,” the Inspector B. Ravinder Reddy said.

His worried family members went to Maal but returned to city as they didn’t find him. Later, they went to his house and found the body on the terrace of the building.

An anaesthetist, the doctor administered himself some poison with a syringe, the police said.
