Division not the solution: CPI(M)

April 14, 2010 09:15 pm | Updated 09:15 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

While contending that division of the State was not the solution for the problems of backwardness, the CPI(M) has suggested to the Srikrishna Committee that priority be given to those irrigation projects which cater to the need of Telangana and other backward areas.

In a note submitted by P. Madhu, MP, V. Srinivasa Rao and S. Veeraiah, the party asserted that it was opposed to the division of the State in any manner.

It said: Uneven development and regional backwardness within States have grown since Independence. The nature of capitalist development is such where capital and resources flow into areas where infrastructure exists. This aggravates the problem of regional disparities. Such problems exist irrespective of the size of the States.

The party said to tackle the problems of under-development, socio-economic backwardness has to be tackled through specific measures.
