July 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The newly constituted District Electricity Committee for Hyderabad district conducted its first meeting on Friday where committee members complained about inadequate response from field staff following power cuts.

The committee was constituted under the Centre’s Deendhayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoth Yojana to oversee the status of power project implementations and identify avenues for new projects as required by the district. In Hyderabad, the committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. Other members include Malkajgiri MP Ch. Malla Reddy and MLAs of Assembly constituencies in Hyderabad. The Hyderabad Collector is the convener.

‘Remove high tension wires’

Committee members told Transco officials that there was no response even after hours from the ground staff during power cuts. They also demanded removing high tension wires from areas including the Secunderabad Cantonment.

The committee resolved to meet once every month while asking electricity officials to provide Assembly constituency-wise status of projects being executed during the next meeting.
