The power distribution companies in Telangana – Southern (TSSPDCL) and Northern (TSNPDCL) – have sought time from the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) till the month-end for filing their annual revenue requirements (ARRs), based on which the power tariff for different categories of consumers is decided.

Official sources stated that the two distribution companies were giving finishing touches to their ARRs by proposing the tariff by balancing the revenue requirements and consumers’ interests. The draft proposals prepared by the two Discoms a couple of months back were understood to have been strongly opposed by the government.

Waiting game

Another reasons attributed to the delay in filing ARRs is stated to be the waiting game between the Discoms of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Discoms of one State is waiting for those in the neighbouring State to file their ARRs so that they could propose tariff little lower than the other State.

The officials of Discoms were learnt to have questioned by the powers that be on their statistics of power supplied to agriculture sector asking them why a large number of farmers had ended lives due to crop loss caused by erratic power supply, if the agriculture sector was actually supplied the claimed quantity of power.

The officials of TSERC were stated to have been agreed to give time till the month-end for filing ARRs since the State sovernment was new.

Meanwhile, K. Srinivas Reddy, an IRS officer, took over as the Secretary of TSERC on Friday on deputation.

He was working as Income Tax Commissioner at Rajkot in Gujarat till opting for deputation to the TSERC.
