The Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) staged a dharna before the Water Board office in Khairatabad on Saturday to protest against the supply of polluted water in Azampura division.

Holding placards a large number of persons, including housewives, held a sit in demonstration to highlight the problem of contaminated water. MBT corporator, Amajadullah Khan, said several areas were getting polluted water for the last fortnight. The problem was more pronounced in Kamal Nagar, Moosanagar, Jhatpatnnagar, Vinayak Needhi, Chennakshram Temple area.

The problem could be tackled only if the defunct drinking water and the sewer lines are replaced. The officials had prepared an estimate of Rs. 40 lakh after visiting the area but the Board’s managing director, M. Jagdeeshwar, was not sanctioning the amount, Mr. Khan said.

He later met the managing director and represented the problem. The latter promised to do the needful, Mr. Khan said.
