DGP V. Dinesh Reddy is of the view that archery could be of some use for policemen. He wanted the Archery Association of Andhra Pradesh president Anil Kamineni to send some coaches to the SVP National Police Academy to train the police personnel in archery.

‘Handy for policemen’

“I think with the emphasis more on non-lethal weapons now, archery training will be very handy for policemen in these areas where they can more confidently tackle the law and order issues where people use bow and arrow,” remarked Mr. Reddy at the inaugural ceremony of the Junior National Archery Championship in Gachibowli on Wednesday.

Competitions

“We are looking forward to the Archery coaches training our policemen and hopefully will soon see a police team in these competitions,” the DGP said amidst applause from the gathering.

This was in response to the request by Anil Kamineni that it is time Andhra Pradesh Police took a cue from some of the North-Eastern State Police have separate archery teams.

Interestingly, the top cop of the State was bang on target in his very first attempt when he took aim with the bow and arrow to the delight of the young archers. “Well keep away from the target board for your own safety,” he quipped before he took the aim. But showed his ‘prowess’ in archery too. He was followed by Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, Cyberabad Police Commissioner, who emulated his boss with ease.
