The Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Army College of Dental Sciences, conducted a dental screening camp on Saturday at Cherlapally Prison. The camp was aimed at assessing dental health of the inmates of the prison.
Follow-up treatment
The purpose of the exercise was to identify potential dental problems, propose solutions and improve quality of life of the inmates through follow-up treatment.
Nearly 180 inmates were screened at the camp on Saturday. The screening was performed using CAST, a latest method of caries assessment. Gum health was assessed, trauma, erosion, fluorosis, discolouration of teeth, mucosal lesions were recorded. X-ray images were also taken. Strict protocol for sterilisation was followed with fast autoclaves and universal protection, the college informed in a press release.
The camp was led by Mamta Kaushik, professor and head of Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, and Mrunalini Koneru, Department of Public Health Dentistry, along with postgraduate students and interns.
