Denizens write to Minister

A group of concerned citizens has written to newly sworn-in Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman, requesting her to save Bison Polo grounds and gymkhana grounds at Secunderabad Cantonment. The State government has already released construction blueprint to build up on the 55-acre Defence land.

In the letter signed by several parties, stressing the need to preserve lung space in Hyderabad for ecological balance, the signatories informed Ms. Sitaraman that a public interest litigation on the same issue was up for hearing on September 12. Bison Polo grounds had always been a recreational centre for denizens, the letter said.

“We urge you to refrain from according any permission to change land use of the 55-acre open space most vital to the health, freedom and liberty of Hyderabadis and all our visitors,” the letter said. Instead of using the ground to provide office space for government employees, open space at the existing secretariat buildings should be used, the letter said.
