After razing 16 constructions on Tuesday, demolition squads of the GHMC pulled down eight more unauthorised structures in the premises of the Gurukul Trust at Madhapur on Wednesday.
Police were deployed in large numbers to provide security to the civic body’s demolition drive.
“A total of 24 constructions that were coming up without required permissions were identified. As of today, we have demolished all of them. The process of verification of more such buildings is on and we will act against them too,” said West Zone Commissioner S. Aleem Basha.
Taken into custodyMeanwhile, Serilingampally MLA A. Gandhi and corporator Jagdeeswar Goud were taken into custody by the police when they tried protesting at the demolition sites, GHMC officials said.
The demolition drive follows a directive from Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao asking officials to act tough on unauthorised constructions, with specific reference to those of the Gurukul Trust.
For over two decades, the 627-acre land has been embroiled in legal disputes involving the Trust, the Revenue Department and the Endowment Department.
Though estimates vary, GHMC officials say around 550 structures had come up over the years.
Situated in Serilingampally mandal, the land was originally part of the Gurukul Trust, which was formed by a certain Bansilal Vyas in the 1930s with support from different philanthropists. Later, the land were sold to individuals in a disputed manner.
The issue of land title was contested in court and the GHMC, which has been trying to check illegal constructions here for the last two years, claims that the new constructions works had begun only a few months ago when the entire machinery of the civic body was engaged with election work.
