Ramzan has come as a blessing in disguise for automobile dealers in old city with many registering a spurt in sales during the month. However, the sales are restricted to two-wheelers like bikes and scooters.
Those planning to buy new vehicles mostly prefer the month of Ramzan to do so and use it from the day of Eid. The practice has developed into a tradition with more and more people going in for new vehicles every year.
Syed Kazim Hameed, sales manager of Prestige Hero automobile showroom at Bahadupura says, “There is up to 30 per cent increase in sales during Ramzan month. People have some sentiment and prefer the month of Ramzan for buying new vehicles.”
This concept has caught up in the last few years. “Most of the showrooms sell more vehicles in comparison to other months,” says Hyder of Rayal Sana Motors in old city. However, traders say there is no major growth in the market this year but admit to increased sales.
Enquiries for vehicles start from the beginning of the month and buyers make note of important features of the vehicles. “In the first 15 days of Ramzan, automobile showrooms are flooded with enquiries, sales pick up in the next half of the month,” says a dealer. A few vehicles that have long waiting periods are booked in advance by people.
Mohd Naseer, a resident of Phoolbagh purchased a Splendor eyeing Eid, “I postponed my earlier plans as I wanted to buy a new vehicle in Ramzan.” His brother also bought a bike recently and has similar plans.
Many youngsters buy new vehicles on ‘Shab-e- Qadar’ and ‘Jummat-ul-vida’ and start using them from the day of Eid.
