The sixth batch of Higher Defence Management Course began at the College of Defence Management (CDM) here on Tuesday.
The 44-week course is being attended by 127 officers of Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard besides officers from friendly countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
Lieutenant General I. J. Singh, Commandant of the Military College of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) at Secunderabad here, who inaugurated the course, exhorted the participants as emerging military leaders to imbibe the spirit of togetherness, which would be critical in achieving effectiveness in battlefields, a release said.
The aim of the Higher Defence Management Course is to instil contemporary management thoughts, concepts and practices in the senior leadership of the three services to enhance operational effectiveness in the Armed Forces, it said.
The course is pitched at the directional and conceptual level with focus on application of management tools and techniques to aid the operational and administrative decision—making process in the Armed Forces, the release said.
As part of the curriculum, participants of the course undertake a Forward Area Tour of border areas, a Management Education Tour of private/public sector establishments and an International Strategic Studies Tour of selected foreign countries in India’s neighbourhood, the release added.
