Dattatreya’s son dies of cardiac arrest

Reason for heart attack not yet ascertained; Chief Minister, Defence Minister condole death

Bandaru Vaishnav, son of former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, died here late on Tuesday.

A medico, the 21-year-old suddenly developed heart complications and collapsed while having dinner at his house in Ramnagar around 9.30 p.m., persons close to Mr. Dattatreya said on Wednesday. Vaishnav’s parents were asleep when the incident occurred.

Vaishnav’s cousin and her husband - both doctors - were around and provided first aid.

Later, he was shifted to the nearby Gurunanak Care hospital in Musheerabad. “While driving him to the hospital, they rang up other doctors and requested them to come there,” Kailas Nagesh, Mr. Dattatreya’s personal assistant said.

Senior doctors arrived at the hospital and attended on Vaishnav. Around 11.40 p.m., he was declared dead.

The doctors said he died of sudden cardiac arrest. They are yet to ascertain why a 21-year-old had a cardiac arrest.

News held back

Mr. Dattatreya and his wife Vasantha were not informed of the youngster’s demise immediately. The news was conveyed to them on Wednesday morning. Vaishnav was the only son of Mr. Dattatreya, who is the Secunderabad MP.

Vaishnav is a third-year M.B.B.S. student in Medi City Institute of Medical Sciences. Mr. Dattatreya performed his daughter’s marriage 18 months ago, while he was in the Union Cabinet as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour and Employment.

He was dropped from the Union Ministry about nine months ago.

Hyderabad Mayor B. Rammohan and BJP MLC Ramchander Rao were among the first to rush to the hospital.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Santosh Gangwar called on Mr. Dattatreya to convey their condolences to him.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Deputy Chief Ministers Kadiyam Srihari and Mahmood Ali and several of their Cabinet colleagues including Eatala Rajender and T. Harish Rao condoled Vaishnav’s death.
