Urge Collector to invoke Atrocities Act

Dalits of Mylaram in Darpally mandal under the banner of SC, ST and BC and Minority welfare association, here on Thursday, staged protest against the alleged high-handedness of the members of Village Development Committee on them.

In a memorandum submitted to the Collector M. Ram Mohan Rao and the Commissioner of Police, Kartikeya, they said Dhoolam Sai Charan, belonging to an upper caste and member of the VDC, hurled abuses at Noothpally Shankar who is an SC Madiga. Sai Charan also tried to hit him with his motorbike, they said. The victims complained to the Collector that the upper caste people were preventing them from utilising the government benefits under different schemes and urged him to initiate steps to punish them under the SC, ST (prevention) Atrocities Act.

The T-JAC leaders V. Prabhakar, M. Bhaskar were also present.
