Dacoits struck at a remotely located colony with scattered houses in Alwal in the small hours of Monday, robbing inmates of a house at knife-point, even as a police vehicle with a wailing siren moved in the colony.
The gang of seven offenders were in the house of Vijaya Laxmi for nearly 45 minutes ransacking the ground and first floors. Ms. Laxmi (45), her son Shashank Reddy (18) and the tenant’s family heard the police siren, but kept quiet as the dacoits had threatened to kill them if they raised an alarm.
Gave drinking water
The dacoits gave drinking water to the landlady who was recovering from shock, before decamping with gold and jewellery weighing 150 grams and Rs.15,000 collected from her.
The intruders scaled the compound wall of the house at Rukmini Enclave of Matcha Bollarum around 2.30 a.m. and removed grills of a window using screw drivers.
They barged into a bed room and woke up the inmates. Six of them were armed with spanners and screwdrivers, while one of them wielded a knife.
The intruders tied up the mother and son and gagged them. Later, they forced them to call out their tenant, Narsimhulu, and snatched two wrist watches, Inspector B. Pushpan Kumar said. The police patrol vehicle crossed the house minutes after the dacoits entered it.
Police patrol team
The patrol team stopped at a near-by house belonging to P. Venkatagiri, an Inspector with Hyderabad Central Crime Station. They signed a note book to record their presence and went away.
