Cyclothon today to promote fuel conservation

November 11, 2017 11:22 pm | Updated 11:22 pm IST - HYDERABAD

A cyclothon to promote awareness of conservation of petroleum products will be held in the city on Sunday.

Being organised by the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) in association with the Petroleum Conservation & Research Association, IOC and HPCL, the cyclothon will be held between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Necklace Road.

It will be held from Hyderabad Bicycle Club to People’s Plaza and back, a distance of around 6 km, a release from BPCL said. The cyclothon, part of similar initiatives by national oil companies across the country, comes in the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealing to people in his monthly radio show Mann Ki Baat to avoid use of petrol and diesel for one day in a week. Such a move, he said, would conserve fuels and contribute to nation-building.

Apart from helping save foreign exchange on fuel imports, a reduction in fuel use would help mitigate the adverse social, economic and environmental impacts associated with oil production and consumption, the release said.
