Cyberabad police on Saturday busted a drug racket and arrested three persons, including a chemist and seized 56 kg of Ephedrine drug worth more than Rs. 2 crore.
A car and Rs. 7 lakh in cash were recovered also from the arrested persons — B. Srinivas Reddy (35), a chemist and resident of HUDA Colony in Chandanagar; his brother B. Venkat Reddy (38), a production executive in a pharma firm and resident of Lingampally; and his associate T. Vijay Kumar (48), a businessman and resident of Meerpet.
Two others, Javeed of Mumbai and Nawaz Khan alias Bhai of Chennai, are absconding. The gang was caught by Special Operations Team (SOT) team led by OSD K. Goverdhan Reddy.
Srinivas Reddy started his own laboratory Srikar Labs at Prashanthnagar in Kukatpally and prepared intermediate drugs ‘Anastrazole and Letrazole’ for breast cancer for two years.
Since he incurred losses, he stopped it. With an intention to make easy money, Srinivas Reddy and Venkat Reddy resorted to manufacturing prohibited narcotics for almost six months.
The duo took three reactors on rent in July this year and obtained raw materials from Javeed and prepared Ephedrine drug. Venkat Reddy, who worked in different pharmaceutical companies, acquired the skills and used to help his brother in making the drug, police said.
Both used to sell the drug to Bhai through Vijay Kumar who previously was into red sanders business. Bhai would later transport it to Singapore, Malaysia and other countries.
A hunt is on to trace Javeed and Bhai.
