Crackdown on sweet and fireworks shops

Close to 150 cases booked under the relevant provisions of Legal Metrology Act against errant owners for violating the norms

The Legal Metrology Department cracked the whip on shops in the city and its suburbs for selling sweets and firecrackers in violation of norms.

Close to 150 cases were booked under relevant provisions of the Legal Metrology Act against errant owners. Responding to the complaints, Additional DGP and Legal Metrology Controller S. Gopal Reddy directed officials to carry out inspections. During raids conducted on popular sweet shops, officials found shopkeepers indulging in short measurement of sweet boxes.

Assistant Controller V. Srinivas said some 10 cases were registered in the city and 21 in Ranga Reddy district against shopowners.Firecracker shops at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, Jubilee Hills, RTC crossroads, Exhibition Grounds in Nampally, Malkajgiri, ECIL, L.B. Nagar, Kukatpally, Chandanagar and Madhapur were also raided. Regional Deputy Controller P.S.R.N.T. Swamy said the shopkeepers were selling crackers by violating packaged commodity rules.
