The Communist Party of India has demanded that the Telangana State government clarify its stand on the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Regulation of Livestock Markets) Rules 2017 issued by the Central Government.
The CPI expressed concern that the recent Ordinance issued by the Centre would adversely affect farmers and traders, particularly those in rural areas, who were dependent on cattle trade for their livelihood. The Ordinance was part of efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Union Government to introduce ban on cow slaughter at the behest of the Sangh Parivar.
Rally taken out
Leaders and activists of the CPI took out a rally in the city on Wednesday opposing the “unnecessary” ordinances curtailing sale of cattle and hurting the sentiments of a section of people. The CPI questioned the silence of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on the controversial Ordinance that would impact cattle traders and farmers not only around the twin cities, but also across the State.
“Given the commencement of the festival season, the impact of the Ordinance would be profound on these sections,” CPI leader E.T. Narasimha said. He said people in different parts of the country including the north eastern States and Kerala were opposing the Ordinance that was aimed at fuelling differences among different communities. The State Government should therefore raise its voice against the Ordinance and instil confidence among the people.
