CP rules out local support to LeT operative

June 05, 2010 12:45 pm | Updated 12:45 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

City Police Commissioner A.K. Khan has ruled out the possibility of local support to the recently arrested Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Mohammed Zia-ul-Haq in executing his plans in the State capital.

“Our inquiries revealed that he was waiting for some assistance from outsiders to carry out his operation,” Mr. Khan told reporters here on Friday.

He said the handlers in Pakistan were yet to be identified and efforts were on to file a charge-sheet against Zia-ulHaq.

In a joint operation with the Counter Intelligence Wing, the city police nabbed Haq, a resident of Edi Bazaar of Bhavani Nagar in old city, a few weeks ago.

Mr. Khan said special teams under the supervision of an experienced officer were formed to trace those involved in the recent Shahalibanda shootout incident in which a police constable lost his life.

The teams have already launched a manhunt in districts and other States to nab the culprits.
