A local court here on Tuesday issued a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi for failing to appear before it in connection with a case registered against him for making hate speech at Nirmal in Adilabad district.

The Second Metropolitan Magistrate, Cyberabad, dismissed the petition filed by Akbaruddin’s counsel seeking to dispense with his personal attendance and issued the NBW.

The magistrate asked the Meerpet police to execute NBW by April 23.

“Several opportunities were given to the MIM leader asking him to appear before the court but he did not appear following which the court issued NBW,” an advocate said.

A Meerpet resident, Bala Eshwar filed a petition in the court in January this year for hate speech delivered by Akbaruddin in Nirmal town. Police booked cases in Nirmal in Adilabad and Nizamabad districts against him after he allegedly used derogatory language against a community while addressing a public meeting in December last year. Separate cases were also lodged against him at different police stations following court directives.

He was arrested by the Nirmal police on January 8 and was released on bail on February 15.

Meanwhile, the Seventh Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court that was hearing a similar petition filed by an advocate K. Karunasagar, posted the matter to April 22 to record the sworn statement of the petitioner. Karunasagar filed the petition against Akbaruddin in December last year.
