: Parents of an 11-year-old girl approached the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) here on Thursday pleading for her mercy killing as they had no money to get their ailing daughter treated.

N. Ramchandra Reddy, sweet shop worker, and his wife Shyamala, went to the SHRC office in Nampally and submitted the petition. The distraught parents told the SHRC officials that their daughter Harishitha, a VI standard student, was suffering from life-threatening liver ailment.

Doctors suggested that only liver transplant would save the girl’s life but it would require nearly Rs. 30 lakh for surgery.

The poor parents hailing from Vuppunuthala of Mahbubnagar district had recently migrated to Jagadgirigutta near Jeedimetla in city for livelihood.

They poured out their woes before the SHRC officials stating that they were penniless and it was beyond their capacity to raise the huge sum for their daughter’s medical treatment. They said that they had already borrowed Rs. 3 lakh for her treatment.

The SHRC officials said they could not intervene in the issue but advised them to approach Telangana Chief Secretary and seek financial help for treatment.
