The common perception that Osmania University's image would take a beating due to Telangana agitation is not worrying corporates. If the campus placement drive by companies that started recently is any indication, OU students are still in demand in the industry.
Over a dozen companies have expressed interest to conduct campus interviews for students of Arts, Social Sciences, Commerce and Business Management. Twenty multi-nationals have almost completed placements for engineering students.
With the job market improving after the recession appearing to fade away, several corporates are evincing interest in recruiting Osmania University graduates.
A job consultancy has approached Directorate of Placement Services (DPS) seeking details of graduates from Arts and Social Sciences stream for recruiting them in Google.
The Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, has also expressed interest, while a city-based pharma company is through with its placement programme.
A nationalized bank and two in the private sector, and two leading IT companies are in the pipeline for placement drive.
“We are in touch with many companies. The focus is on creating more jobs for those graduates pursuing Arts and Social Sciences,” said DPS Director S. Pardhasaradhi.
University officials said the recent incidents that took place in the campus in connection with Telangana issue did not have an affect.
The university is also planning to start long and short-term courses to develop soft skills among students from rural areas.
“We have to customise the students profile to suit the industry's needs by developing their skills,” he explained.
Plans have been chalked out to send emails to over 600 companies requesting them to visit the university. Efforts are on to create data-base of graduates and post-graduates of the university constituent and affiliated colleges.
The data base containing students' details, including their academic background, photographs and contact details, will be connected to the portal which would be developed soon.
