January 20, 2013 06:07 pm | Updated 06:07 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

In a novel way to make their employees follow a strict physical regime, some corporate companies took the initiative of educating their employees on the importance of maintaining good health and staying fit. Under this initiative, the companies made their employees participate in a competition ‘Corporate India Health Challenge’. The employees were made to undergo a month-long training programme under the guidance of physical fitness experts and advised to follow the diet prescribed by a dietician. And after one month the participants were evaluated on the body mass index level, loss of weight and depending on their performance, winners were chosen.

The weight of participants was recorded before and after the programme along with other parameters like hip to waist ratio, blood pressure and neck circumference. The team from Tata Consultancy Services emerged first while Dr. Reddy’s team was the runner up. Teams from Uninor, Livlive Hospitals, Westin Hotels, Beautiful People and Cognizant had also participated in the competition. “Overweight leads to many diseases including diabetics, heart stroke, cancer etc. ” informed Dr. Nandakishore, Managing Director, Livlife Hospitals.
