Not only are the accused guilty of swindling the common man, they have also violated copyright law by selling spurious phones of prominent companies. Earlier, smartphone major Samsung Electronics had intellectual property protectors survey Jagadish market, only to find that several traders were selling fake phones of their make. Company representatives then approached the Central Crime Station (CCS) police, who raided the shops and seized 174 China-made handsets.

CCS Deputy Police Commissioner L.K.V. Ranga Rao cautioned the public against buying such phones, asking them to be more careful while examining the package and accessories as they invariably show the brand name of the genuine company.
The motherboard and battery, along with top and back covers of the phone will bear brand name of the company. Branded mobile phones were sold at standard rates only and not under invoiced, he said, adding that when it is switched on, it will exhibit the company’s logo, model and music. Unbranded phones would not display such details, he said.
