State-wide comprehensive survey of those with criminal record begins

Thursday was a day to remember for entire Telangana Police Department as constables to Inspector Generals of Police turned gatherers of information - albeit about criminals - in nook and corner of the State.

As part of the first-ever comprehensive survey of criminals in the State - christened ‘Sakala Nerasthula Samagra Survey’ - police personnel knocked on the doors of persons repeatedly indulging in crimes.

Carrying tabs, teams of policemen went even to remote parts of the State and physically verified details of persons involved in crimes. Deputy Commissioner of Police of South Zone (Hyderabad) V. Satyanarayana drove to alleged gangster Ayub Khan’s house in Fateh Darwaza of Old City.

The DCP clicked pictures of Khan accused of involvement in over 50 crimes including assaults, intimidation and extortion. “I recorded longitudes and latitudes of his house location and got it geo-tagged. Now, Ayub Khan’s house can be traced even by a constable from Adilabad district using TSCOP mobile application,” said the DCP.

In South Zone, comprising 17 police stations, 10,240 ‘offenders’ (persons accused of involvement in crimes) were identified. When reports last came in, police could complete verification of 1,000 persons. The officials hope to cover the remaining in another week.

Nagarkurnool Superintendent of Police Sunpreet Singh personally verified details of some offenders at Ramnagar in Nagarkurnool and Madhurinagar of Achampet. The district police identified 2,690 offenders. Due to some local festivals and requirement of deploying police for security, the survey was likely to take additional time.

Additional Director General of Police Anjani Kumar went to Devendernagar Colony of Pahadisharieff police station in Rachakonda. He interacted with the police teams cross-checking details of three persons involved in cases of rape, sexual harassment and explosive substances.

Director General of Police (in-charge) M. Mahender Reddy visited Habeebnagar, Madhapur and Saroornagar police stations in the city and reviewed the survey.
