Prohibition and Excise (P&E) officials are confident of putting behind the bars all those involved in the narcotic drug racket busted by them three days ago.
What they and other law-enforcing agencies are clueless is how to check the supply of high-end narcotic drugs like LSD (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide) through Dark Web. Investigation conducted so far confirmed that most of these drugs were being procured by the accused by placing orders online.
Dark Web is part of the World Wide Web which can be accessed using only special software. Since browsing, communication or transactions made through Dark Web cannot be easily tracked, reviewed or detected, persons indulging in illegal activities are using it.
Drug mafia and racketeers host some sites on Dark Web through which one can place order for narcotic substances.
“They send the drug through courier agency which delivers the same at the address specified by client,” an investigator said.
As of now, there is no method or system to check what hundreds of courier agencies in the country are supplying to lakhs of customers. “We cannot check each and every parcel or cover of courier agencies as LSD can be sent concealed in a paper wrap,” a police officer said.
After catching Calvin -one of the three arrested- the P&E officials tried to identify who were the drug suppliers by browsing Dark Web. “We tried to log into Dark Web using Calvin's password but couldn't succeed,” an investigator said.
Calvin and Nikhil Shetty -the latter was among the four arrested on Tuesday- were introduced to drug suppliers’ websites by the absconding kingpin who was being referred to as Bob. “Those supplying drugs would not readily jump at requests for delivery of narcotic substances. Unless they are introduced by a known person, they would not entertain anyone,” the P&E officials said.
They suspect Bob had introduced all the seven arrested persons online to drug suppliers through Dark Web.
