The Government has fixed September 29 as the deadline to all the 12 departments/agencies making arrangements for 11th Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biodiversity being held here from October 1 to 19, to complete all the ongoing works.
Works worth Rs. 273 crore are being implemented through these departments/agencies—Police, Health, Tourism, Forest, Youth Advancement, Culture, Information & Public Relations, Roads & Buildings departments and Disaster Response Force/Fire Service, National Green Corps, State Bio-Diversity Board, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
The works under implementation relate mostly to beautification of the city with repairs to roads, drains, sidewalks, parks, flyovers, and water bodies.
Roads for a stretch of 125 km is being re-carpeted particularly those connected to Shamshabad international airport. Sign-boards and logos are being readied for installation at prominent places.
Based on information provided by the Union Government, Ministers S. Vijayaramaraju (Forests & Environment) and D.K. Aruna (Information) announced at a mediaconference here on Saturday that 10 heads of nations would attend the conference besides forest and environment ministers of 90 to 100 countries.
They said brisk works was on over the proposed bio-diversity conference pylon on the 15-acre land in the APIIC layout at Gachibowli, the bio-diversity museum planned at Dulapalli which would uniquely house over 300 to 400 endangered species of trees and a park opposite Hotel Quality Inn by the side of Mehdipatnam-Gachibowli road.
The entire cost of the museum was being borne by the Centre. The construction of pylon was entrusted to S & S Green Projects. The Ministers said Professional Conference Organiser and Mind Communities & Ideas had been appointed by the Union Ministry of Environment & Forests to coordinate all activities connected with the conduct of the conference and the State Government had no role in this respect.
